Paul Stewart on Piano

paulstewartCanadian pianist Paul Stewart will enthrall the crowd by playing some famous compositions at Mazda Hall. He launched his career in 1981, appearing with the Toronto Symphony in a critically acclaimed performance of PSTchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. He has appeared as guest?soloist with major orchestras worldwide. He has a special affection for India, where he has played and travelled widely for many years.

Friday, 10th July, 7 pm to 9pm at Mazda Hall, Sadar Dastur Nosherwan School, Camp.

Rohit Vasudevan Diaries

11412234_786578944796028_6381284720483202802_nThis coming Saturday The Beer Cafe brings you ‘Rohit Vasudevan Dairies’ (RVD) which is a collaboration of four talented musicians who each play a part in bringing to life the songs in Rohit’s head. The band includes Rohit Vasudevan on guitars and vocals, Vibhas Sawar on keyboards and backing vocals, Saket Rao on Drums and Hemant Aligi on the bass.  The band is currently working on recording their debut album. The band also endorses Meinl Cymbals (Germany).

Date and Schedule:
Saturday, 11th July, 9 pm onwards at The Beer Café, Koregaon Park.

Film Appreciation Workshop

F.A.W. - July 11-1Lost The Plot, Open Air Cinema presents a one-day film appreciation workshop by National-Award winning filmmaker, Satyanshu Singh. As film-buffs we passionately love and fiercely criticize the movies we watch. What we don’t realize is that our taste in cinema is also limited by our understanding of it. How to understand what went wrong in a film? What contributed to the brilliance of another? What are the different aspects of cinema that come together to form one movie? What are the different components that make cinema such a unique art form? Using film clips, quoting live examples & with his dynamic, entertaining lecturing style, Satyanshu will break down the language of cinema in a manner that is understandable to even the most unaware.

Dance Enrichment Weekend

dewLearn about the Devadasis and their dances at the Dance Enrichment Weekend. Dr Swarnamalya Ganesh, a performer and dance historian will teach and impart wisdom about Sadir – the ancestral original of Bharatnatyam. In the two-day function, students will stay at the 65-acre Chinmaya Naada Bindu (CNB) Gurukul-Ashram and will attend sessions such as:

  • A Nrtta and an Abhinaya composition in the Sadir style
  • History of Sadir and Bharatanatyam (talks & discussions
  • Dancing music
  • Sacred chanting

Saturday, 11th July and Sunday, 12th July, 8 am to 8 pm at Chinmaya Vibhooti, Mulshi. Fees: Rs. 2,700/-

Aai Retire Hotey

aai retireAai Retire Hotey is a Marathi comedy play and highlights the events in a family after the mother decides to quit working. A woman plays a pivotal role in the society by fulfilling her duties as a mother, sister, wife, aunt and daughter. Veena chooses to retire from being a mother and live life on her own terms. The chaos this decision creates in the family becomes comical and enlightening.

Date and Schedule:
Sunday, 12th July, 5 pm to 7pm at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, Shivaji Nagar.

Haiku Workshop

Kala-RameshMeet Kala Ramesh for a relaxed morning of working with Haiku. Kala Ramesh is a well known and respected haiku poet. She believes in small is beautiful! Kala discovered haiku in 2005 and feels she’s addicted to this art form, since day one! She also writes in related genres like, tanka (five line poem), haibun (tight prose embedded with haiku), senryu, and renku (collaborative linked verse).
