“ When we leave our place outside & come back, we feel as to be at home. But I went in the space for walk and came back on the earth, I feel at home. ” Said Ms. Sunita Williams, acclaimed astronaut of NASA. She was delivering a speech from
United States addressing the student fraternity of Pune through Video Conferencing. This was as a pre-cursor to the 3rd Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS) National Conclave, which will be organized by the MAAER’s MIT School of Government on 10th, 11th & 12th January 2013 under the aegis of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad Foundation. Prof. Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Executive Director, MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Pune, Chief Initiator & Dean, MAEER’s MIT School of Government & Convener, 3rd Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS), Pune & Prof.(Group Capt.) D. P. Apte, Director, MIT School of Business were present on this occasion. Sunita Williams Said, “The Men & Women should be treated equally in the society everywhere. This only will avoid the sad incidences which happened recently in Delhi.” “It was my dream to be an astronaut and I could become successful. Of course, I had to undergo rigorous training regarding Science, Engineering & Medically also. It is expected that you should be Physically fit, Mentally alert & intellectually sharp. We had to inculcate leadership qualities in us to face any situation that will occur in the space.” “My father used to take us in the laboratory even on Saturdays which created inspiration in us to become somebody in the field of Science & Engineering. To fasten a nut & bolt is very easy here but it may be very difficult or even impossible in the space. All the laws of nature & life are different in space than on earth. I am very proud to be of Indian race & I expect young Indians, especially girls to create history in the field of Science & Astronomy also.” Ms. Sunita Williams answered the questions asked by Nikhil Nambiyar, Tajesh Sathe, Adarsha Tatadiya, Priti Gavande & Chinmya Mahajan – students from different
collages & disciplines.
