The Maha Kabbadi League at Pune: Highlights
The beginning of June saw stands at the Balewadi Stadium resounding with the sounds of “Kabbadi, kabbadi, kabbadi, kabbadi..” and the screams of thousands of fans of the sport egging their favourite team on to a win. The Maha Kabbadi League, organized by MAX Godwit Entertainment in association with the Maharashtra State Kabaddi Association concluded recently and will be aired on TV shortly. The tournament, which includes kabbadi matches between cities of Maharashtra saw the Pune Panthers fail to qualify for the finals, albeit the enormous amount of support that the other teams received from their fans across the city who filled up the stadium to cheer their teams on. If you weren’t there to partake in the excitement at the stadium, don’t worry! We share with you the top five highlights of the game
1.Players from all over Maharashtra – All the players were from Maharashtra and are National and international level players. Basically, the aim of this event was not only to give glamour to the game of Kabaddibut also to involve small town Kabaddi players and give an opportunity to them.There were 8 teams, both men and women. Team names are: Pune Panthers, Mumbai Devils, Ratnagiri Raiders, Raigad Dynamos, Nagar Challengers, Baramati Hurricanes, Sangli Royals, Thane Tigers. On 12th June, the first semi-final of the tournament (Women’s Team) was played between Thane Tigers and Ratnagiri Raiders and the second semi-final was held between Baramati Hurricanes and Mumbai Devils on 13th June. In Men’s group, the first semi-final was held between Raigad Dynamos and Sangli Royals and second semi-final on 13th June, the game was witnessed between Thane Tigers and Baramati Hurricanes.
2. Women Power– As they say correctly, “In this world, there is no force equal to the strength of a determined woman.”We could completely relate to the quote after watching women’s game as there was no lacking in terms of enthusiasm and intensity. In first semi-finals, Thane Tigers beat Ratnagiri Raiders and in second semi-finals, Baramati Hurricane won the match against Mumbai devils and became one of the finalists. Finals; on 14th June was a very tough competition. It was a closely fought match in which Thane Tigers became the champions and won the title of “First MahaKabaddi League Women’s Team-Winner.”
3. Kabaddi:Men’s Group-As much as we enjoyed watching women’s game, well, we must say that we were totally engrossed watching men’s game, too. In first semi-finals, Raigad Dynamos lost to Sangli Royals. In the second semi-final round, Thane Tigers won the match against Baramati Hurricanes to reach the finals against Sangli Royals. The final game kept us on the edge of the seat right up to the end. In the last minute, Thane Tigers clinched the victory from the hands of Sangli Royals to become the winners of the tournament.
4. Full House– The Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex was fully packed with audience. The spectators had come all the way from their hometown just to cheer up the players in both semi- final and final rounds. The onlookers were very much excited to watch the game and were very enthusiastic about. They were cheering up the players and encouraging them by calling out to them.
5. Celebrities spotted– The chief guest of this event was Mr. AjitPawar. Prizes were distributed from the hands of Former Deputy CM of Maharashtra. Many celebrities used the stage of this tournament to promote their upcoming movies. We spotted star cast of upcoming Marathi movies such as “Online Binline”, “Carry on Maratha” and “Time Bara Vait”.The trailers of these movies were also shown to the audience.
