Punekars, great news! We had all heard of Sinhagad Fort getting its own cable cars and it’s finally about to happen soon!

Work on the ropeway is set to commence by the end of February this year. Once it’s operational, the journey time up to the fort will only be 5-7 minutes!

This is the second of its kind project in the state, the first being at Raigad Fort.

The ropeway will take tourists from Atkarwardi village to the Doordarshan tower, a distance of about 1.8 km.

We’re currently looking at 32 cable cars, 16 of which will travel up and the rest will travel in the opposite direction. They will be equipped to take about 1000 travellers per hour.

The agency who is in charge of the work has sought permission for choppers, so that the work can be completed in under a year. If helicopter services are refused, the work could take up to 3 years.

Well, at least the work is finally beginning! Right, Pune?
