It is the silver jubilee year for the very popular Pune Festival and many plan to attend at least some of the various cultural programmes held at various venues throughout the city. Started to be a cultural landmark of the city during its Ganesh Utsav celebrations, the programmes range from cooking festivals, dance and music programmes, plays, sports and so on. They are held at Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Rangamanch, Balgandharva Rangmandir and Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha, from September 9-18. Here is the complete schedule for the festival.

 

[divider ]SEPTEMBER 13TH, FRIDAY[/divider]

 

SHREE GANESH KALA KRIDA RANGAMANCH

AD

* Inaugural Ceremony of the 25th Pune Festival. Apart from the Sanai Vandan by Tukaram Daithankar and a welcome brief by Devika Nadig and Pradeep Bhide, you will have an AV presentation of the 25 glorious years of the festival, Shree Ganesh Stuti by Nandini Rao Gujar, Shree Ganesh Vanadana by Hema Malini, Esha & Ahana Deol and her troupe, the presentation of Pune Festival Award to Dr M Balamuralikrishna, Dr. Prakash Amte, Narendra Singh (CMD, Bank of Maharashtra), Srinivas Joshi (Arya Sangeet Prasark Mandal, organisers of Sawai Gandharva) and Dyanaba Landge, Bollywood Dhamaka Lavani style and so on. It starts from 4.30PM onward.

* Those interesting in something poetic can attend the ‘All India Urdu Mushaira‘ which will have names like Manzar Bhopali, Nida Fazli, Jalees Sherwani, Rahat Indori, Bashar Nawaz, Iqbal Ahmed Qureshi, Dr Mehtab Alam and so. It starts from  9.00PM

 

BALGANDHARVA RANGMANDIR

* The Gujarati crowd in the city will be treated to a Gujarati comedy playAa Na Mo Bahu Nade Che‘, which is a Sanjay Goradia production and Vipul Mehta directed play. TIME: 9.30PM

SHREE GANESH KALA KRIDA RANGAMANCH

* Attend a dance ballet performed by Hema Malini and her troupe. This would be her new ballet, as per her tradition at the Pune Festival. TIME: 9.00PM

 

BALGANDHARVA RANGMANDIR

* Hear some beautiful Hindi songs, courtesy ‘Geetkaro Ka Safar‘, presented by Jitendra Bhuruk, Amey Jog, Geetanjali Jedhe, Medha Paranjpe and others. TIME: 9.30PM

 

YASHWANTRAO NATYAGRUHA

* For the ladies, you have the ‘Mahila Mahotsav‘ which has the food festival and others. It is held at Yashwantrao Chavan Kaladalan. TIME: 9.30AM

* More lavani performance for you, as you have the ‘Lavani Mahotsav‘ which has performances by Radhika Patil, Sadhana Punekar, Sayali Kelkar, Sapna Gujare and group. TIME: 12.30PM

* Go ahead and check the contemporary Kathak performances by Anjali Patil from Canada called Chitran Fourteen. TIME: 5.00PM

* Carnatic music lovers can head for ‘Sound of Southern India‘ which is devotional music programme based on Kannad Bhakti Geet. It is performed bu Nandini Rao Gujar and group. TIME: 6.30PM

SHREE GANESH KALA KRIDA RANGAMANCH

* Based on the five elements of nature, be mesmerised by a musical programme ‘Panchtatva‘ which has Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, U Sriniwas, Selva Ganesh, Shridhar Parthasarthy, Ramkumar Mishra, Shubhankar Banerjee and Durga Jasraj. TIME 9.00PM

 

BALGANDHARVA RANGMANDIR

* Be ready with some whistles and claps as the lavani mahotsav called ‘Lavani Mahanayika‘ will be held for all lavani lovers. You can watch lavani experts Maya Khutegaonkar, Sangeeta Lakhe, Swati Archana Jawalekar and group perform. TIME: 12.30PM

* Some other traditional form comes via the ‘Keralotsavam‘ organised by the Pune Malyali Federation for showcasing traditional songs, drama and dances. TIME: 5.30PM

* You can head for the ‘Dilbag Sing Live Concert‘ which is a Hindi and Punjabi pop songs event organised by the World Punjabi Organisation. TIME: 9.30PM

YASHWANTRAO NATYAGRUHA

* A women dance competition called ‘Mahila Mahotsav‘ will be a treat for all. TIME: 9.00AM

* Classical dance lovers have an unusual delight as Bharatnatyam in contemporary style will be performed by Tejashree Adige and group in ‘Nitya Ninad‘. TIME: 5.00PM

* Followers of Maneesha Sathe are in for a delight with the traditional Kathak dance programme called ‘Unmesh‘ performed by Prajakta Dravid and Tejaswini Sathe. TIME: 6.30PM

* Those who missed out on the Purshottam Karandak Ekankikas (one-act plays) can watch the three award winning plays – Ulagaddi (Bharti Vidyapeeth), Bell (SP College) and Ka La Kana Ka (MIT College). TIME: 9.30PM

* All the Bollywood music lovers are in for a treat, as ‘Bollywood Nite‘ programme will see Lalit Pandit, Shaan, Akriti Kakkar, Bela Shende and other performing for you. Well-known mimicry and stand-up comedian Sunil Pal will be seen here. TIME: 9.00PM

 

BALGANDHARVA RANGMANDIR

* Bring up the patriotic feeling with the Hindi patriotic songs concert called ‘Jashn-E-Azadi‘, brought for you by the Jawaharlal Nehru Bal Sangha, New Delhi. TIME:9.30PM

 

YASHWANTRAO NATYAGRUHA

* All the way from Kolkata, Sushmita Banerji and her group will perform a Kathak Ballet for the audience. TIME: 5.00PM

* A special Robotics show called ‘Wonders of Science‘ will be showcased for all by the Punekar Educational Initiatives. TIME: 6.30PM

* Do attend a fashion show ‘Miss Pune Festival‘ which is a personality contest. Open for single women above 20, this will be the final round, with names like Pooja Mishra, Prateik Babbar and Chaitanya Gokhale as judges. TIME:3.00PM

* One of the popular events is the Hindi Hasya Kavi Sammelan where avid followers can listen to poets like Puran Pankaj, Ghanshyam Agarwal, Mukesh Gauttam, Navneet Hulled, etc. make you laugh. Renowned senior poet Subhash Kabra will be the host. TIME:9.00PM

 

BALGANDHARVA RANGMANDIR

* Time for some laughs in Marathi, courtesy ‘Hasyadhara‘, the Marathi Hasya Kavi Sammelan, which will have names like Ramdas Phutane, PM Shinde, Ashok Nandgaonkar, Narayan Sumant and Suresh Shinde becoming the attractions. TIME: 9.30PM

 

YASHWANTRAO NATYAGRUHA

* It is Marathi laughter time again, as ‘Hasyotsav Ekpatrincha‘ (Marathi laughter show) will be presented by Hasayadan Foundation. Names like Vishwas Patwardhan, Dilip Hallyal, Mrudula Moghe, Swati Surangalikar will be presented and the show is conducted by Makarand Tilloo. TIME: 5.00PM

* Go and check out 25 years photographs by Santosh Potdar in an exhibition called ‘Silver Frame of Pune Festival‘.

* SEPTEMEBER 14: You can attend the ‘Pune Festival Golf Cup‘.
VENUE: Poona Club Golf Course, Yerawada.
TIME: 7.00AM.

 

* SEPTEMBER 13-14: It is the time to check out the ‘Pune Festival Boxing Tournament‘, organised by Pune City Amateur Boxing Association.
VENUE: General Arunkumar Vaidya Stadium.
TIME: 4PM.

* SEPTEMBER 14-15: Cheer the contestants while watching the ‘Pune Festival Roll Ball Tournament‘, held by Pune District Roll Ball Association.
VENUE: Shri Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi.
TIME: 10.00AM.

*SEPTEMBER 15: Attend the bullock cart races for an eventful Sunday.
VENUE: Bhosari Gaon.
TIME: 11.30AM.
