Pune: Akshay Kothawale, a 30-year-old auto rickshaw driver in the city was supposed to get married on May 25, but postponed the ceremony due to the lockdown.

The noble man, who had saved up Rs. 2 Lac for his special occasion, is now using the money to not just feed the needy in the city, but also give free rides to the elderly and pregnant women, while distributing masks and hand sanitisers to the homeless.

Kothawale, along with his friends, is preparing and distributing food for 400 people everyday. “I saw several people on roads who could not even afford to have one meal and were struggling to survive. I and some of my friends thought of doing something to help the daily wagers and needy people,” he says.

Having attached a loudspeaker to his vehicle, Kothawale and his friends ride around to create awareness about Covid-19, informing people on how to stay safe from the disease.
