Indian Express: Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will inaugurate the Pimpri-Chinchwad Science Centre (PCSC) on Friday. Union Minister for Culture Chandresh Kumari Katoch, and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will be present on the occasion.
The centre has been constructed on seven acres near the Auto Cluster in Chinchwad. The cost of the project pegged at over Rs 8 crore was equally shared by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the Centre. The construction was undertaken under the aegis of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).
The four galleries at the PCSC depict various branches of science including a gallery dedicated to automobiles, which is spread over 600 sq metres. The gallery depicts the historical and technological advancements in the automobile sector.
Director general of NCSM GS Rautela said the live models of various parts of automobiles donated by automobile giants in the area have been set up at the gallery. “Pimpri-Chinchwad is known as an automobile hub and we want the gallery to ignite young minds to come up with innovations,” he said.
Rautela said the centres like PCSC are the best places to grow interest in science among children. “This will be the 42nd science centre in the country and we plan to touch a figure of 64 centres in 5 years,” he said. Other than PCMC, Maharashtra has similar science centres in Nashik, Aurangabad and Nagpur.
PCMC has formed a company to run the PCSC. The entry fees will be Rs 20.
