Launch event of BMW X5
One of the world’s most popular auto brands BMW launched its latest creations, a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) called BMW X5. It was launched amidst much fanfare at Bavaria Motors with ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar coming in as chief guest. The tagline for the auto giant is ‘Carry Your Luxury Wherever You Go’ and this vehicle is supposed to do just that. Philipp Von Sahr, President, BMW Group India was also present at the launch and he spoke about this ultimate vehicle.
To be produced at the company’s Chennai plant, the vehicle has luxury mixed with an all-terrain driving facility. Amongst the facilities, you will find BMW 2-in-1 power turbo six cylinder, in-line diesel engine with turbo charger technology, 3.0 litres diesel engine with common rail injection and variable geometric with turbo charger. It has titanium look, front and rear bumpers, black high glass B & C pillar finish and mirror base, decorative moulding side frame and satinated aluminium window racer covers, stainless steel in front, guarders with side and rear over-ride, remote control keys in chrome buttons and matte finish tailpipe finish. You also get dynamic traction control, cornering brake control, hill descent control, side impact projection, electronic vehicle immobiliser and crash sensor, intelligent light-weight construction, automatic start and stop function, brake energy regeneration, electric power steering and such other powerful functions. The ex-showroom cost of the super vehicle is Rs 70 Lakh 90 thousand only.
Sachin, who confessed to being a BMW fan, had seen the car at Munich. “I got a chance to drive it and it was incredible in terms of handling, comfort and styling. I became a huge fan of this car. I have one at home and have been driving it. If I need to go for practise, I just have to put my kit in. The kids can go to school in it and if my wife wants to go shopping or we have to go for dinner, it is not a bad option. It is truly an all-rounder.”
Von Sahr describe the company as a leader in the luxury segment and was proud of the fact that it met the highest sales satisfaction and customer service last year. “The X range has been the highest seller in its category. We have introduced SAV in the mid-size segment and are the star in this segment. The success story comes in the fact that it has sold 1.3 million components. Out attraction part is that we try to better the comfort level. It has adaptive suspension, comfortable seat, and more space and so on. Even if you get stuck in the traffic, the comfortable seat allows you sit in peace. Sachin has said the best part.” According to him, the two groups who might be target buyer would be the SAV – the young achievers and the conservative who are interested in luxury. He feels that the pricing would be the secondary issue for them. He added that you can have sheer driving pleasure only with innovative and state-of-the-art products. “Competition is good, but BMW looks at its own strengths. In future, we will be introducing new model which would be a surprise. It is a new BMW 18,” Von Sahr added.
