If not for mangoes, we really don’t think we’d be able to survive a Pune summer. The king of fruits graces us with its presence every summer, and the scalding sunrays outside the window don’t hurt as much when we’re slurping on some juicy mangoes!
Every year, Khandani Rajdhani celebrates our love for mangoes with their exclusive ‘Aam’ festival. Quite honestly, we look forward to this festival right from January, especially for the Aam Ras they serve during the fest, which is quite possibly one of the best we’ve ever had in Pune!
This year, we had the privilege of being invited to dine like a king at Khandani Rajdhani and experience the sheer deliciousness of this entire festival! For 45 days, you can gorge on some of the most delicious mango food items, and the best part is that the menu keeps changing every week!
Their mango festival comprises over twenty soul-satisfying dishes infused with mangoes, and the Aamlicious menu is rotated each week to serve up 7-8 different dishes from the numerous items mentioned from our tasting below, all the way until May 31st!
When we visited the Khandani Rajdhani Aamlicious 2019 festival, we were instantly greeted by the haapus smell at the restaurant. Before being shown to our seats, we were taken to the display of the menu for that day; it looked heavenly, we couldn’t wait to try all of it.
At our table, we were catered to the famous Khandani Rajdhani service- a server approached us with a bowl and some water so we could clean our hands. What particularly intrigued us is that their Thali prohibits the usage of spoons, as it is in the Indian custom. Everything must be eaten with hands.
We were served Kairi Panna and Kesari Aam Thandai as our welcome beverages; the Panna was great, but the Thandai was especially out of this world. Sprinkled with cashews, pistachios, and some saffron, it set the mood just right for the culinary affair which would follow.
Then came the enormous array of chaats and starters – Cheesy Aam Dhokli, Mango Khandvi, Kacchha Aam Nu Muthiya, Rasila Aam Papad Samosa and Aam Potli Kachori. Truly mouthwatering, and there was more. Jodhpuri Aam Dhokli, Aamras Khasta Kachori Chaat, Aamras Paalak Chat, and our favorite- Kairi Bhakarwadi Chaat. We exchanged looks with each other- we were going to run out of space in our stomachs pretty soon!
The main course consisted of Ker Sangri Aamboliya (a unique Rajasthani vegetable), Goonda Kairi Nu Saag and Rajasthani Kaju Aur Aam Ki Subzi. We loved their sabzis a lot- Aam ki Launji, Gol Amboliya and our favorite- Kairi Samose Ki Subzi.
All of this with of course, Puris, Theplas, and Bhakris. For Daal and Kadhis, we were served Kairi Surthi Dal, Kairi Pyaaz Pakoda Kadhi and two more Mango daals. Aam Pista Pulav and another favorite of mine- Marwari Kacchi Kairi Ki Biryani almost put us straight into a food coma!
They’d saved the best for the last- the desserts! The Aamras, of course, was incredible. However, the Gulkand Paan Malpua and the Mango Basundi stole the show. A close second were Aamrakhand and the Mango Jalebi Rabdi.
A special thank you to Khandani Rajdhani for hosting us at their Aamlicious 2019 Mango fest; it was one of the most delicious meal experiences we’ve had in a while! Punekars, you absolutely must check it out! Don’t forget to tag us in your pictures!
