National Art Exhibition 2014
The first ever national level exhibition organized by The Art Katta is being held in Pune, the cultural capital of Maharashtra. The idea is to maintain the diversity in display so that people get a chance to see the variety of artworks. There will be more than 40 selected artworks on display by various artists from various parts of India such as Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ratnagiri, Delhi, Surat, Ahmednagar, Vishakhapattanam, Goa, Kolhapur, Patna and Hyderabad.

Dance lovers will have another fantabulous event to look forward to. Neha Muthiyan (senior disciple of Guru.Shambhavi Dandekar) has organized a Kathak evening ‘Gurucharani Arpan’. There will be performances by Neha and her students and a special performance by Guru. Maneesha Sathe. Neha has taken up the initiative of starting a performing arts related magazine which will be launched at the hands of Maneesha Tai at this event. This magazine aims at enriching every performer’s journey with valuable advice and knowledge oriented articles from renowned Gurus, crosswords, fitness related articles and much more.

Duo SAAJ is an instrumental duo founded in the early 90s following many acclaimed performances all over India. The Indian word SAAJ means musical instrument. Both the musicians are French by nationality, but immersed in Indian culture. SAAJ have been travelling to India every year for over two decades. In SAAJ’s sensitive music, rhythm and beat construction are essential to the development of complex rhythms in keeping with traditional ragas. They have mastered their respective instruments through hard work, dedication and training as disciples of renowned Indian maestros.

Indian Classical Music by French amateur musicians.
Sylvie Hiély, an accomplished sitarist, is one of the main disciples of the great Indian master Ustad Usman Khan who is the heir of a long and rich musical tradition. She has been following his teaching since 1980. She now studies under the great sitar maestro Ustad Bale Khan of Dharwar, who is from the same tradition, the Beenkar lineage.
Laurent Gherzi plays in the “punjab” style, famous for its rhythmic subtlety and rich tones. He has been taught by Nishikant Barodekar, virtuoso heir of a renowned musical family, and a close disciple of Zakir Hussain from the prestigious Alla Rakha School in Mumbai. Each year, Laurent Gherzi returns to Pune to study under Pandit Suresh Samant, who is the heir to several generations of tabla players and an expert in various styles of playing tabla. Laurent Gherzi plays the tabla traditionally, in classical concerts with Duo SAAJ or with other Indian musicians.
