In order to preserve the environment and reduce pollution levels, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s city improvement committee has approved a proposal for renting electric bikes.

The proposal says that 500 e-bikes will be available for rent and the same number of charging stations will be provided across Pune city.

Work on the project is expected to begin once PMC’s standing committee and general body approve it.

PMC itself will not provide financial backing for the project; it will be carried out by an entity called V-Tro Motors.

Mr. Amol Balwadkar, a corporator from Baner was the one to submit the proposal.

One will be able to rent an e-bike under various packages. The charges will be Rs. 4/- per km, a one-day package of Rs. 450/- for a maximum of 150 km, a weekly package of Rs. 1900/- for a maximum of 1000 km and a monthly package of Rs. 3800/- for a maximum of 4000 km.
