Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), in their entirety were declared containment zones on Sunday night, starting midnight until at least April 27 (or until further notice).

Over the weekend, Maharashtra’s Deputy CM, Shri Ajit Pawar asked authorities to follow stricter lockdown rules in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the twin cities.

Pune is the first city in the state to have been sealed entirely. Until a few days ago, 13 civic wards were determined as ‘red zones’, whereas now, the whole city has been sealed.

While shops selling essential items will remain open for only a few hours a day, rules for vehicular movements will now be even stricter than before.

The city’s borders are being watched extremely closely, and no one, barring essential services’ vehicles, will be allowed entry or exit.
