Pune University, E-Square Flyovers to be Demolished during Lockdown

The initial plan was to tear down the structures over a duration of one month, but will now be done in 15 days; in two phases instead of three.

Taking advantage of the lockdown in the city, the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is hoping to speed up the process of demolishing the Pune University and E-Sqaure flyovers during the ongoing lockdown.
The initial plan was to tear down the structures over a duration of one month, but will now be done in 15 days; in two phases instead of three.
The reason for the demolitions are so that they can be replaced with a 1.5 km long, two tier flyover that will accommodate both, vehicles and the Metro viaduct for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro line.
Plans have been made to reroute traffic through the Pune University campus.
