In order to increase healthcare workforce in the city, Pune Municipal Corporation has now permitted General Practitioners (GPs) to treat mild to moderately symptomatic Covid-19 patients.
With up to almost 2000 new cases being detected daily, this move will reduce the pressure on designated Covid care hospitals and healthcare workers.
Guidelines and procedures for testing and treatment of symptoms will soon be provided to GPs, comprising citizens’ go-to family doctors.
This decision was a long time coming and much needed for supporting Pune’s current health infrastructure system.
During a recent meeting held with doctors’ associations and officials from the local branches of the Indian Medical Association, general practitioners’ association and physicians’ association, the new PMC commissioner, Mr. Vikram Kumar, played a vital role in reaching this settlement.
