Pune goes into an Unlock phase yet again, starting Friday, July 24. After 10 days of a strict lockdown in the city, the administration has circulated directives as to how the city and its citizens will operate in this phase of reopening until July 31, or further notice. Here’s what’s allowed and not allowed:


  • Shops outside of containment zones will operate from 9 am to 7 pm, on a P1/P2 basis
  • Citizens can exercise/walk from 5 am to 7 pm (for a limited time near their residence, not in groups, and kids are to be accompanied by adults)
  • Cabs and rickshaws can operate for essential services / emergency reasons
  • In containment zones, only essential shops to remain open from 9 am to 2 pm
  • For weddings and funerals, only a gathering of up to 20 people is permitted
  • Maids and house-helps can work, as long as they’re not coming from containment zones
  • Self-employed plumbers, electricians can be hired, provided they use hand sanitisers and masks, and follow social distancing
  • Food deliveries and parcels
  • E-commerce / couriers
  • In-setu construction work
  • Housekeeping services
  • Government offices are to operate at 15% capacity or 15 pax, whichever is lesser
  • IT offices to operate at 50% strength
  • Private offices at 10% strength or 10 pax, whichever is lesser

Not allowed:

  • Educational institutions
  • Gyms, cinema, swimming pools, malls, hotels, restaurants
  • Religious places
  • Spas
  • Any social, political, sports, educational, religious programs and gatherings

Services like clinics, hospitals, medical stores, pharmaceutical manufactures and industries that were allowed to operate will continue to function as normal.
