The Pune Municipal Corporation has sealed off some of the most densely-populated localities of the city, especially the ones central to Pune. The 7-km stretch from Maharshi Nagar to RTO (mostly Peths, including Nana Peth, Bhavani Peth, Kasewadi) and parts of Kondhwa have been barricaded to not let any persons enter of leave them, barring essential services’ vehicles.
The areas have been sealed starting Monday at midnight until further notice.
Bhavani Peth, that’s part of Gultekdi-Maharshi Nagar, has had some of the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in Pune and is now a containment zone, amongst other areas.
There are now strict restrictions on the movements of residents of these areas and wearing masks is compulsory for them. Entry and exit points have been sealed, while they’re being guarded closely.
PMC is keeping a watch on other localities too and if more cases rise, then those will be sealed as well.
These efforts are being carried out in order to contain further spread of the virus. PMC Municipal Commissioner, Shekhar Gaikwad, has appealed, yet again, for citizens to stay at home.
