Pune District Administration has obtained rooms in 18 hotels to accommodate medical and non-medical staff, working tirelessly with COVID-19 patients in the city.
Most of the hotels are located on Bundgarden Road and around the Pune Railway Station. These medical professionals comprise a mix of those from Pune as well as neighbouring towns. In order to not return home and risk the well-being of their family members, they requested for accommodation elsewhere.
The hotel owners were only more than happy to oblige with the administration. One of the hotel owners was quoted, saying, “The district administration approached us and requested our hotel services for medical staff who are tirelessly serving Covid-19 patients. After the lockdown was announced, our hotel was already shut. We have handed over 10 rooms to the district administration, but if they need more space we will hand over more rooms.”
An official from the district administration said, “Hotel owners have not demanded any money and handed over the keys”
According to the city administration, the rent has not been determined yet and they will put in a request to the State Government to look into it.
