India came to a halt at the end of March, 2020 to curb the spread of COVID-19 and, amongst nation-wide businesses, infrastructure work on the Pune Metro project was also put on hold.
Recently, the State Government issued an order to resume work on the much-awaited project in a phased manner, which has restarted in some areas of the city, including parts of Paud Road.
The new orders, of course, come with revised safety guidelines and require strict social distancing norms and other necessary precautions to be followed.
Hemant Sonawane, Public Relations officer in-charge for Pune Metro, said, “The Metro rail work has started in some areas. There is a need to complete certain work before the start of monsoon”
Debris is now being cleared off from riverbed areas so work can resume and flooding is avoided when monsoon begins.
