Having undergone its first trial run earlier this month after only 30 months of beginning work, the Pune Metro project has become the fastest metro project in all of India!
Officials have reported that work to make the very first 5-km stretch operational by April 2020 is on track. The full project of two corridors (31.25 km) is expected to be completed by March 2022.
The Maha Metro is a 50:50 JV between the Centre and State government. As we already know, the first corridor consists of 16.589 km (PCMC to Swargate – 5 underground stations and 9 elevated stations), whereas the second corridor consists of 14.665 km (Vanaaz to Ramwadi – 16 stations).
Work on the project had begun in December 2016 and although it did slow down during the extended monsoon we witnessed in 2019, it picked up speed again and is now on track!
