Last year, us Punekars were cozied up in warm clothes by mid-November. This year, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer!
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), we’re going to witness warmer nights and cooler days, leading to slight humid winter until December 19 this year.
There’s an anti-cyclone over central India that’s coming in the way of the regular flow of northerly winds (cool, dry winds from North India which cause a drop in temperature). We’re also still seeing clouds and feeling moisture due to moist south-easterly winds, causing a drop in day temperatures and warmer nights.
So our typical chilly early December will come a little late this year. But worry not, it’ll come!
The extreme change in global weather has been linked to the warming up of the Indo-Pacific Ocean.
