Deccan Queen, the undisputed queen of rail travel between Pune and Mumbai will soon be locked in a stiff competition. Its rival? A new super-fast train, which is set to be launched in 2020 as part of Train 18 initiative started by railway minister Piyush Goyal.

The new train is expected to have not just a very impressive speed but also luxurious facilities. This comes as a welcome news for residents of both the cities; although functional, most of our current rail cars are outdated and lack the comfort.

The assembly line for the new train has already begun and reports suggest that if things go as planned, then there will be a massive demand for this new train, all thanks to the impressive speed of 160 km per hour!

The new train will be part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative and likely be functional in the next two years. Chennai-based company, ICF (Integral Coach Factory) as well as Modern Coach Factory in Uttar Pradesh are the two companies responsible for assembling this new train.

As for the seating and interiors of the train- much has been influenced and inspired by the seating arrangement of European trains. Ample leg space ensures that there will be more than enough space for food carts to be pushed to and fro between the aisles.

Pune-Mumbai is the only route chosen as part of the Vande Bharat initiative; other routes will run in North India (Delhi) and some in the South as well (Bengaluru).
