Every once in a while, you’ll hear someone say, “Wow, this month literally raced past us,” which really gets you thinking. So much changes in the span of 30 days, almost like a movie with several twists in the plot. It can be hard to keep track of, but that’s what we’re here for. Apart from monsoon arriving with ferocity, July saw a lot of progressions for our city. In case you missed something, this is how July went for Pune.
- City Upgrades
July witnessed the sanctioning of the third metro line, a new airport project and a smart city project worth a whopping 75 crores! Work on the 1st metro line is said to have already begun, and land acquisition has started for the new airport in Purandar. Read the entire story here.

The start of July saw the Palkhi procession reach its destination. After celebrating the entire June, the varkaris finally reached Pandharpur on Ashadhi Ekadashi (July4). Here is our report on their journey in pictures.
- Pune’s Laugh Riot
The stand-up comedy scene seems to be getting more and more popular in Pune. July 28 witnessed Abhishek Upmanyu performing live at Nehru Memorial Hall. Besides this, the anniversary celebrations at High Spirits saw a plethora of comedians, from Kanan Gill to Aditi Mittal.
- Theatre Takes Center Stage
‘Piya Behrupiya’, a critically-acclaimed theatre play was hosted by Nehru Memorial Hall on July 23.
- Dhol Pathak Makes a Comeback
The ban on practicing Dhol Tasha ended on July 25. All the major pathaks have been eagerly awaiting this, begun practising and with Ganeshotsav just a fortnight away, it will be interesting to see how they manage it. Get ready to hear that uplifting sound of dhol through the city!
- Monsoon Marathons
With two fitness marathons being hosted in the city (2July 29-30), Punekars finally got to stretch their legs. This came as a much welcome change from being stuck indoors due to the heavy monsoon!
- Pune’s First Permanent Food Truck Zone Launches in Viman Nagar
You heard that right, this one is here to stay for good. Finally, a one stop destination where you can enjoy food straight from trucks under a starry sky. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
- Pune Hosts its First Craft Beer Festival
The last day of July saw a fun event at Balkrishna Lawns in the form of a craft beer and food fest. Several popular eateries brought their best to the table with specials such as juicy, barbecued pork ribs. The breweries competed to see who would run out of beer the fastest, while a couple of bands serenaded the crowd.
- New Places to Visit
Unwind opens up in Mundhwa, giving you a brand new place to eat and party. Eskobar in Koregaon Park brings you gourmet popsicles. Kokoscoop sets up shop in Magarpatta, wowing the crowd with coconut water topped with ice cream, fresh coconut and jelly, in a little coconut – at Rs. 40 only. Between Your Buns (yes, that’s a real name) picked Pune to set up its first shop in Wanowerie, serving delicious burgers and much more.
