Spinifex at High Spirits

SpinifexSpinifex has started an exciting new project: Bollycore, featuring Priya Purushothaman, a talented young vocalist and virtuoso dancer Maya Sapera. The trademark Spinifex jazzcore/avantrock combines with Purushotaman’s intense lyricism to create a sound beyond East and West, avant garde and tradition; a sound previously unheard and thoroughly enjoyable for lovers of Indian music as well as for fans of contemporary jazz. The visual aspect of Bollycore is greatly enriched by the performance of Maya Sapera, who has a background in bharatanatyam but who is also expert in Rajasthani gypsy dance and Bollywood styles. The project comprises: Priya Purushotaman – voice, Maya Sapera – dance, Gijs Levelt – trumpet, Tobias Klein – saxophone, Jasper Stadhouders – guitar, Goncalo Almeida – bass and Philipp Moser – drums.

A Piano recital by Shani Diluka

Shani DilukaShani Diluka plays a few pieces on the piano in a programme featuring Schumann: Papillons Op. 2; Debussy: Clair de Lune, Estampes and Schubert: Sonata D 960 in B flat Major, organised by the Poona Music Society. Free Admittance.
Shani Diluka was discovered at the age of six by a programme initiated by Princess Grace of Monaco for gifted children. She was admitted to a specialized class at the Academy Prince Rainier III and gave her first public recital at the age of nine and at age ten, a report on her talent was telecast by the French channel The FR2. At the age of twelve, she appeared on the first half of a concert with Hélène Grimaud at the Acropolis in Nice. The same year she benefited from the precious advice and encouragements from Mr. Lawrence Foster. At the age of sixteen, she performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo.
Shani subsequently studied at the Paris Conservatoire and currently enjoys an enviable international career. Her recordings of the Grieg Concerto and Mendelssohn piano works have won many awards. Currently, she is recording the complete Beethoven piano concertos and receives special coaching from Murray Perahia.

Nava Gadi Nava Rajya

nava-gadi-400x400If the culmination of all love stories is marriage, here it is the other way round – marriage is the beginning of this love story. The play depicts the story of a four-month old married couple. Theirs is an arranged marriage and now the two are discovering the various facets of each other’s personalities. At times exciting, at times disappointing – the two are unraveling before each other. The entanglement of the couple is endearing and the estrangement – devastating. The evolving relationship between the two forms the basis of this family play.
