Khamosh Adalat Jaari Hai

Set in the backdrop of the early 1967, Vijay Tendulkar?s Marathi play Shantata! Adaalat Chalu Ahe is a stark satire drawn around the patriarchal social system. The Hindi translation of the same, Khamosh! Adaalat Jari Hai, does not measure less in the volume of depth to portray the rusted values of society that clasps a woman into its claws of ridicule and dishonor. The play begins in a jolly tone when a group of theatre actors take a trip from their city to a smaller town for a theatre performance. The actors in the club are introduced as flop professionals in different fields of work. However, they are die-hard passionates for theatre acting. Tired of the wait for the show to commence and seeking out respite from the boredom, the actors decide on a fake court trial since their play revolves on a similar base- a court room drama. What began in a code of joviality turns cruelly dismal as the characters conspire the trial against Miss Leela Benare, the unmarried infamous woman of the group. Benare, the female protagonist, who at first seems to be the life of the actors? assemblage for her unlatched cheerfulness, becomes the bait for the same club to stage the false drama.
