He looks like a heartthrob and has a huge female fan following. He also happens to be a genuinely good guy. Abhijeet Khandkekar might be familiar to you as the lead of the hit Marathi serial ‘Mazhiya Priyala Preet Kalena’. His voice is more popular to us Punekars as RJ Abhijeet on Radio Mirchi. He made his film debut in ‘Jai Maharashtra Dhaba Bhatida‘. Now he has started work on a new film ‘Ek Dusre Ke Liye’, in which he stars with Amruta Khanwilkar and Aniket Vishwasrao. He talks to The Punekar about his movies and more…
Can you tell us in brief about your character and what made you accept ‘Ek Dusre Ke Liye’?
This would be my first intense love story. I always wanted to do a rom-com and I really liked this concept. The film has two more young famous names attached to it who are also my friends. I am happy to do the film. I have always done “good boyfriend” kind of roles. The role in this film too is similar but with different shades. The character has simplicity of another kind.
The thing is that the way films are in the south, filled with glamour and good story, is not successful here. However, we can keep on trying. Also, love stories don’t work on television. The film’s story is quite relevant. With this film, change might come.
Why are you creating a romantic hero image for yourself?
It just happens. This film too has me in such a role but I prefer to be choosy in accepting such roles.
Will we be seeing you in a serial again?
For me, all the mediums are the same. But it is not possible for me to give the time required to dedicat to a serial. I am doing a film in December and I am also shooting for this film.
