An emerging breed of Marathi actors has made sure that Marathi films get younger, good-looking and different. Saee Tamhankar is one of the few names to have gotten into the limelight not just because of her good looks and acting, but recently, due to her bold and sexy image. Yet, she is still considered an actress and not just another glam doll. Her upcoming film ‘Anumati’ directed by Gajendra Ahire has her acting with big names like Vikram Gokhale, Neena Kulkarni, Reema, Subodh Bhave, Kishore Kadam and Anand Abhyankar. The award-winning film is produced by Sri Pant Productions and presented by Navalakha Arts and Holy Basil Productions.
And what made you pick up the film and role?
I play Vikram Gokhale’s daughter-in-law for whom the family is everything. She thinks and works for them 24/7. Actually, my wish was to work with Gajendra Ahire and the rest of the cast made me pick up the role. With Ahire, I am assured that the role will be different. Contrary to my image, he has cast me in a different role. Though it is small role, my acting is uplifted with working with great actors.
Earlier, you had the image of a simple girl, then came the bold and sexy image and now, it is a combination of a talented-yet-sexy actress whose acting is being appreciated. Did you plan on creating such images?
Not all all. Interesting projects came my way and I accepted them. With the roles and films, I kept on getting evolved, as a person and an actress. My overall thoughts also improved due to it. But, I needed different roles to improve as an actor. That is happening to me now and I am glad. I am getting roles which allow the audiences to see me beyond my image.
How was the experience working with such a superb cast and crew?
When you have such an evolved group as the one seen in the film, you are bound to improve and work that way. For example, if you are with a group which does timepass, you do the same. Whereas if you are with a studious group, you tend to focus on studies. In the case of Anumati, I had all experienced people around me. I gave my 100 per cent and the result became 150 per cent, thanks to their influence. I gave in more and got pushed for more. The best part is that all of them were down-to-earth and would appreciate my work without any motive.
Luckily, I have the image of a sexy-yet-thinking actress which is a rare mix. I am proud of this image. Yes, in our (Marathi) society, sexy is one image which is normally not seen or found. So many look at me as someone who is shallow. But I have nothing to complain, career-wise.
Due to your rather bold image, does any reaction coming from the public or anyone else irk you?
Luckily, I have the image of a sexy-yet-thinking actress which is a rare mix. I am proud of this image. Yes, in our (Marathi) society, sexy is one image which is normally not seen or found. So many look at me as someone who is shallow. But I have nothing to complain, career-wise. Also, in today’s time, package deal is important. You have to look good, act good and think about overall presentation of yourself. One should try to focus on that.
What are your upcoming projects?
Two of my films are releasing soon – ‘Duniyadaari’ and ‘Nava Gadi Nava Daav’.
