Times of India: The strawberry growers’ association in the state has decided to introduce strawberry flavoured ‘lassi’ in the three-day strawberry festival starting in Pune on February 9.
The annual festival is organized to promote strawberry and its various products. Last year, the association had introduced strawberry fvaloured ‘shrikhand’ during the festival.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, N P Bhilare, senior member of the association, said that the festival will be held at Acharya Atre hall on Bajirao Road. “Besides fresh strawberry which will be brought Mahabaleshwar everyday, our offerings include strawberry milkshake and strawberry with cream,” he said.
The association has recently finalized its logo, which will be used on packings soon, Bhilare said. Strawberry packets will be distributed for free among inmates at 10 organizations in the city, including Manavya, Shrivatsa, Aaple Ghar and Vanchit Vikas.
Strawberry is grown on the hills of Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar and has a large customer base in cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune. The association has also tied-up with a corporate retail company and supplies close to one tonne fresh strawberry everyday.
