[dropcap size=dropcap]S[/dropcap]o even after having a decent knowledge of Japanese culture and language, I don’t know for sure what harajuku meant. It is said to be a top fashion district in Japan which its known for its modern influences. The restaurant tries to encompass that by bringing Japanese flavour to India and is one of those rare places in Pune that serves authentic Japanese Food.
It’s located a just stones throw away from where German Bakery was, and just by the entrance you will know what it is, a grand place. In the locales of Koregaon Park, from the lobby to the actual place, its luxurious and extravagant. The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the O Hotel and is designed in Japanese décor. There is usual sitting area and for sushi’s there is a special section where you’ll find the chef showcasing his talent while creating tasty food in the process.
This one wont be your quick snack, so make sure to take time out for coming here. Watching the chef cutting and making the dish and putting on a show is a fun and makes the experience all the more interesting.
Food and Drinks
I started with the sake, an alcoholic Japanese beverage. Like everything Japanese, there is a special way of eating it, taking sips along with some boiled vegetables. It gives a slow but wonderful kick, and you’ll get used to its taste as well.
The food won’t be your normal spicy one and please do not mistake it with Chinese food, even the authentic one. The food, the Japanese people and culture are a lot different than China, no cheap products here. I had edamame soya bean, yasai tempura, rainbow maki (must try), unagi(eel) nigiri sushi (avoid), shake (salmon) nigiri sushi (order 1-2 dishes as it leaves you wanting for more), maguro (tuna) nigiri sushi (must try), chicken teppanyaki, egg fried rice and to end it chocolate bomb (amazing for chocolate lovers). Don’t worry about the names for the food is simply tasty and will definitely be on your mind for your next visits.
You may have to wait a bit for the orders, but just like Japanese tradition, it all comes at the right time and its best taken slowly. This one wont be your quick snack, so make sure to take time out for coming here. Watching the chef cutting and making the dish and putting on a show is a fun and makes the experience all the more interesting. The waiters are humble and will help you out with everything, for Japanese food is not something one is used to.
If you can let go your inhibitions and give something different a try, you’ll enjoy it. The place is lovely for formal dinners, romantic dining or just a simple adventurous zeal to try something new. The idea of raw fish may turn off many, but it manages to be tasty in a healthy way (the Japanese diet will tell you why Japan has the highest life expectancy, with its people living an average of 82 years). I was already a huge admirer of Japanese culture, but this place has made me love the food as well.
