A cultural symbol, an architectural prowess, and Pune’s metaphorical signature, the Shaniwar Wada has proven to be infallible through tumultuous times. A Punekar or not, every person who is a part of this city right now knows about the legendary Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati. The indomitable jewel of our city, this beloved Ganpati and his Mandir gets a heavy amount of visitors. Adorned with gold and diamonds, this deity is a relief for sore eyes.
Namaskar! By putting a Chuck Berry quote, I’m slyly trying to segregate my own audience into two categories- 1) The ones who found my use of this quote pretentious. 2) The ones who found it pretentious and yet, are willing to give me another chance.

When I was in Prague, I missed Pune in all its glory, not just because it’s my hometown; I missed even the traffic jams, which I thought was something I could live without. So I asked a few of my friends (who aren’t in Pune anymore but they’re still Punekars at heart) as to what they miss the most about this city. Their answers are bound to make you smile. After all, Pune and nostalgia is a heady combination in itself!
Gathering the tobacco in a pinch, he slides it along the left side of his jaw. “Precisely. We are a dying breed, we and this occupation are going to be something which kids would read about in storybooks. The government is polishing up the railway sector. Platforms and railway stations are being maintained regularly. Most of the passengers these days have bags with wheels attached to them, they pull it around. That has been the reason why everything is falling apart, people don’t need us anymore.”
