Numerous times, we’ve written about people of Pune who’ve achieved highly commendable feats. But, it’s been a while since we came across someone who’s achieved so much in so little time, and continues to accomplish so much more, that a pat on the back simply doesn’t cut it!
Meet go to site Dr. Poorva Shah, achiever extraordinaire, award-winning Kathak dancer, soloist, ace dermatologist and a selfless philanthropist.
Dr. Shah has been learning Kathak for 23 years now under renowned artist, Guru Yogini Gandhi, and is currently training under Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj Ji. In the process, Dr. Shah has participated in and won various state as well as national level classical dance competitions.
As she firmly believes that Indian Classical dance forms help in creating awareness about the deep-rooted culture and heritage of India, she has been associated with Baithak Foundation for workshops that impart knowledge of Kathak to children.
Not surprisingly, Dr. Shah also excels in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music and has been learning under one of the most talented gurus of our time, Guru Shri. Sudhakar Chavan, for 20 years now. Having performed in numerous festivals as a soloist, Dr. Shah has received blessings from late Pundit Bhimsen Joshi himself!
If all those talents weren’t enough to applaud, other large feathers in her talent and career cap are her MBBS and MD in Dermatology degrees from the DY Patil Medical College, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) and is a board certified and practicing dermatologist since 2012. She has also been trained in advanced Vitiligo treatment in New Jersey, USA.
Her private practice is known as ‘Derma Centre’, while she is also a faculty and consulting dermatologist at The Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune.
She practices all types of medical and cosmetic dermatology, including laser therapy, related to skin, hair and nails. She uses modern treatments and technologies to enhance the natural beauty of her patients.
She regularly takes part in health check-up camps and health awareness talks and has been a part of the Yerwada Central Jail health camp organised by the Pune Police as well as health check-ups organised by the Rotary Club.
If you’re wondering how she manages her passions for dance, music, as well as her dermatology career, Dr. Shah says, “In today’s day and age, almost everyone is shuffling between multiple roles. Creating a harmonious balance between career and passions is difficult, but not unattainable”.
Hats off to you, Dr. Shah! Continue making Pune and Punekars proud!
