The latest food craze to have hit Pune’s grub scene is Soya Chaap. It blurs the lines between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. It’s made of Soya, which is pure veg, but has the texture and taste of meat. Listed below are the best places to try this dish out.
Khalsa Veg, Viman Nagar
A fairly new joint, this place has over 10 different kinds of chaap. The owner gets all the ingredients from Punjab and the textures of the chaap is just spot on!
The Urban Foundry, Balewadi
The presentation of their chaap is really impressive. There are a lot of flavors that hit the palette. It’s a must have if you’re visiting!
Delhi Chaap Express, Camp
It’s a food cart on wheels outside Clover Center but don’t let that deter you. The Pudina Chaap is a can’t miss. They also have a Veg Fish Chaap. That’s something you don’t hear everyday.
Farzi Café, Kalyani Nagar
This one’s upscaling the humble Chaap. It’s served with nut fudge and Burhani Cream, which is yogurt with spices added in it. The cream compliments their Tandoori chops pretty well.
Hotel Jijai, Viman Nagar
Chaap Handi and Kheema Chaap are served here along with the regular dry chaap items. Don’t go here for the ambience, but for the quality and price. Pocket friendly and good service!
Pandora Gastronomy & Bar, Yerwada
The menu here has been created by Master Chef Ajay Chopra. They have two versions of chaap here- Achari and Malai; one spicy and the other not so much. The vibe here is great!
Lahorie, Pimple Saudagar
The Soya Tikka Lemon Kalimirchi chaap is well known here. They also have a varied variety in chaap along with an extensive Mughlai menu.
This dish has the best of both worlds; looks like Chicken, almost tastes like Chicken but it’s not chicken. Go on and give them a try, Pune!
