Luring the film industry for eons, Pune has managed to star in quite a few films! Well, we don’t blame the filmmakers as our city has a peerless appeal. So, soaking in the starry glory, here’s listing some of the famous ones!

Dangal

Although there was no mention of Pune in the blockbuster, a few of the stadium scenes were filmed in the reputed FLAME University. By the way, just a few days ago, Dangal was registered as the first Indian movie to have minted Rs. 2000 Crores.

Bodyguard

A part of Salman Khan’s superhit trail, this film has encapsulated the ethereal beauty of Symbiosis College and Lavale Campus. Some of the students even got a chance to work as a part of the crew.

Ajab Prem Ki Ajab Kahani

Any true Punekar who has watched the song, ‘Prem Ki Naiyya Hai Ram Ke Bharose’ would know that the quirky set with the red bus is our very own 11 East Street Café in Camp, Pune.

Munna Bhai MBBS

Shankar. S

The college in which Sanjay Dutt gets enrolled for the laugh riot to follow is Pune’s Imperial School Of Medical Sciences. Fun fact – Kamal Hassan went on to play the protagonist in its Tamil remake.

Angoor

Most parts of this classic comedy were shot in the city. Filmed by Gulzar, the movie is based on  Shakespeare’s ‘Comedy Of Errors’.

A Mighty Heart

Directed by Winterbottom, the scenes of this Hollywood flick were actually to be filmed in Karachi. However, due to safety concerns the makers boiled down to Pune.

Gandhi

As the film is a biopic on Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, it was crucial for the camera to roll in Aga Khan Palace, where the legend himself was held.

Here’s a bit of history- Following the commencement of Quit India Movement, Gandhi, his wife Kasturba and his secretary Mahadevbhai Desai were interned at the place from 1942-1944.

Not to forget, the movie walked away with three Academy Awards!

I had a dream to see my name on a page, which was read by many. Luckily, my wish has been granted in the most beautiful way, as writing was generous enough to welcome me with open arms.
