I was just back home after hanging out with friends over a few coffees at Cafè Durga, Model Colony. Sipping hot coffee through conversations and some laughter while watching the drizzles outside, I got sleepless thanks to all the caffeine. Lying in bed with lights off and trying really hard to get some sleep, I struggled to close my eyes. I realized I was quite hungry and it struck me that there obviously was no maggie at home. The maggie ban had certainly hit owls like me. What was I supposed to do? I’m sure it was a problem for many others too. Lazy to step out and scared to wake mommy dearest up at this hour, I resorted to my best friend (Google) looking for options.
It was interesting to know that there are people who offered food way past Puneri business hours. And yes, they do have a fancy menu catering to a wide variety of midnight cravings.
Here are a few places that are worthy enough to go to and satiate yourself or even better, simply order the food at home.
1. Hotel Jai Ganesh, Nal Stop:
One of the newer facilities which opens after midnight, Hotel Jai Ganesh is a popular joint for people who’re famished and cannot wait till the famous Amruteshwar at the same junction opens a little later. It has a hostel-friendly traditional menu including the standard tea, coffee, poha, upma, idli/wada sambhar, khichadi throughout the night. Opening at about 3:00 am, you will find men and women, mostly insomniac students and hostelites, flocking on the road every night. My personal favourites from their menu is their poha and khichadi with a cup of tea.
2. Bade Miya, Chandani Chowk, Opposite Hotel Banjara Hills:
Bade Miya deals with takeaways and has seating arrangement too but you’ve got to be really lucky to find a place to sit there post midnight. Instead, the best way to enjoy their famous chicken cheese paratha is by placing an order for takeaway and sharing the 4-part tasty paratha by resting it on your vehicles.
3. Aate Huye, Model Colony:
Aate Huye, based out of Model Colony is a saviour of hostelites and locals, like me, since they deliver food throughout the night. They have a menu which would make any foodie grin and not be a disappointment even to the pickiest of foodies. They usually take about 45-50 minutes to deliver hot, well packaged and delicious food right at your doorstep at satisfactory prices. Their butter chicken is so tasty that irrespective of whether you’re hungry or not, you must try it!
4. Mad Momos:
Mad Momos is a chain of small joints located at five locations viz., Koregaon Park, Magarpatta City, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, and Vishrantwadi, and offers dine-in as well as home delivery of reasonably priced momos, sandwiches, pizzas, noodles and shakes. Their Ferrero Rocher Shake and steamy hot momos are worth a try. Another notable service they provide is the delivery of essentials like medicines and peripherals.
5. Jashn, Salunke Vihar Road:
Jashn is a pocket-friendly, full fledged restaurant open till early morning. Located right at the beginning of Salunke Vihar Road, it is known for its non-vegetarian delicacies. It’s open from 7:00pm right uptil 4:00am and also serves sheesha. Their rolls are a must try. Served with a green chutney, these rolls will not disappoint.
6. Isaq’s Midnight Biryani:
Here’s an exclusive for all our non vegetarian readers based in Koregaon Park, Viman Nagar, and Kalyani Nagar. You have got to try the lip smacking chicken dum biryani delivered to you by Isaq’s Midnight Biryani, it is heavenly! Delivering only chicken dum biryani throughout the night, Isaq and the guys are angels in disguise for biryani lovers. Reasonably priced, they deliver between 10:00 pm to 5:00 am. You can contact them here: +919960386707.
7. Burger 11, Lane 7, Koregaon Park:
Burger 11 is the place you should call for those midnight burger cravings. Their ‘What The Fish’ burger deserves a special mention here since it is definitely worth a try. Although it is priced slightly on the expensive side, the taste of the burgers totally make up for it.
