Many people who work in the vicinity of Ranjangaon would admit that there is a dearth of fast food restaurants once on the Nagar highway after crossing Wagholi. The top fast food brands seem to disappear without a trace. Most people who travel along the highway, would most definitely be on the lookout for a quick bite served hygienically. But, fret not if you have not found many. Here are some ‘Indian’ fast food joints that you may like to try out on one of your drives down the Ahmednagar highway.
Maii Wadewale, Pune Nagar Road Highway, Lonikand:
On your way back from Ranjangaon, you would notice this eatery after you have crossed the toll naka. There is a rush at this place at any point of time. The well lit billboard in the evening makes it difficult to miss. The ever popular wada pav at a mere Rs. 12 is hot and tasty. You get a wonderful chatni and some ‘red chilly powder’ that just enhances its taste. The tea, served in small cups, goes perfectly with the wada pav, and that too for just Rs. 10.
Vikram Dairy, near Vitthal Niwas, Wagholi:
Coming from Pune, just as you cross the Wadeshwar temple in Wagholi, you need to lookout for this small dairy that serves the most lip smacking thick lassi. This is on the other side of the road, and so you will need to cross over to the other side of the road. There, in the middle of the shopping complex, you have Vikram dairy. Apart from a couple of benches placed outside, there is not much place to sit, but the service is quick and the lassi is freshly made.
Someshwar Matki Bhel, Lonikand:
It is a very popular bhel joint, and anyone who knows this area will not give it a miss. Not very far from Maii Wadewale, and on the same side of the highway, this eatery has been there for ages now. It does not have anything apart from bhel on its menu, but then do an excellent job of it at Rs.40. The bhel is served in sturdy Aluminium boxes and can just as well be eaten in the car too. Depending on the season, you get cut pieces of raw mangoes or cucumber in the bhel to give it that extra crunch.
Vithal Kamats, Ranjangaon:
Kamats does not have to be introduced to Puneites. It has stood the test of time and is an established name. If you are heading to Ranjangaon from Pune, you will not miss this conspicuous signboard on the highway, just before Ranjangaon. Apart from a variety of south Indian snacks, you also have the regular sit down Indian meals here. Light on the pocket, this place never fails to serve.
Café Katta, Pabal Chowk, Shikrapur:
Sambhaji Sakore, a mechanical engineer quit his cushy job to start Café Katta. Located near Axis Bank at Pabal Chowk, this is quickly turning into a chain of fast food restaurants that would fill in for the big brand pizza and coffee shops on Nagar Road. This is a pure vegetarian eatery, but serves international fast food items like pizzas, burgers, cheese grilled sandwiches, apart from cold coffees and milk shakes. Cheese grilled sandwich at Rs.50, regular sandwiches between Rs 30-40 and hot coffee at Rs. 20, the USP of this chain is clearly going to be its pricing.
