Explore Adventures conducts a gamut of events, races and workshops. The team has been organising unique, theme-based sports’ events that challange the physical and mental limits of people.
I chatted with the founders, Sucheta Kadethankar and Nitin Joshi to know more about Explore Adventures and their upcoming event, Hill Hunt.
Tell me about Explore Adventures?
SK: Explore Adventures is an organisation that was formed last December to conduct sport events for one and all. Both Nitin and I are extremely passionate about sports. We have our respective professional commitments, but Explore Adventures is where we have an opportunity to engage in our love and passion for sports. We love doing anything and everything that challenges the physical and mental limits. As both of us have been into sports for a long time now, we thought of trying our hands at organising unique, theme-based sports’ events.
NJ: We began our journey to get not just a few people to participate in sport events but also to get more people across the city to come and join us in our fun activities. We attempt to bring in a wow factor in every activity that we do so that we can target a new set of people to come outdoors and explore their surroundings each time.
That sounds interesting. What are the activities that you have conducted so far and what’s the experience been like?
SK: We started our activities last year with Hill Hunt, an adventure team race that involved trekking, running, and a lot of adventure activities on the hills surrounding Pune. We had 130 teams participating last year. We have also conducted Triathlons and Duathlons wherein we got a great response from not only those in Pune but also from other parts of the state.
NJ: Yes, and we also had some athletes participate from Delhi and Bangalore as well. One of our recent events, Dajikaka Gadgil Developers’ VETERUN was a feather in the cap. This was an event exclusively for runners over 40 years of age. An overwhelming number of veteran runners from Pune, Belgum, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kapurthala, Kolhapur, Satara, Karad, and Mumbai made the event possible! And now we have the Hill Hunt Second Edition on the December 21, which is definitely what we are looking forward to, as this year we are coming up with new hurdles and challenges
That’s great! So, tell me about what the Hill Hunt Second Edition is all about?
SK: The Hill Hunt, Second Edition is our 7th event. This year, we have been supported by the Ravetkar Group. Hill Hunt is a team adventure race, which takes you across the hills surrounding the city. The team should consist of two participants. So you can be two males, two females or even a mixed group in one team. Also, a female member who is above the age of 40 years and a male member who is above the age of 45 years will gain the team an added advantage. Your team will earn a bonus. There are two distance categories for the race – either 18 km or 9 km. The race begins and finishes at Jumping Gorillas, Chandni Chowk. At the starting point you will be given a map, route code sheet and time card. Each team is given a map with check points, and these check points are in a different order for every team, so no one really knows who is winning! At each checkpoint the team is required to perform a physical activity or hurdle, which doesn’t require any special skill or equipment. Also, after completing the race, each team will be given a Finisher’s Medal and some refreshments.
NJ: We have activities for beginners and pros too. So we make sure that the activites are both interesting and challenging for the participants. There are cash and kind prizes for our winning teams. So what are you waiting for? Come outdoors with us, endure, and challenge yourselves!
